Edit beyond auto-clipped vertical shorts

Klap stops at extracting and captioning short clips in the browser, while ChatCut lets you edit full episodes, prompt editable motion graphics, cut multicam angles and dub speech on a timeline.

Export captioned shorts without a clip paywall

Klap locks clip downloads behind Basic; ChatCut extracts vertical shorts with animated captions and exports locally for free.

Try Add captions

Fix spoken slips on a real timeline

Instead of striking lines inside Klap's single-clip transcript view, cut spoken slips, retakes and pauses across your full timeline.

Try Speech Cleanup

Prompt kinetic graphics, not fixed clip layouts

Klap only applies preset hook titles; ChatCut generates editable kinetic typography, brand badges and callouts beside your speaker.

Try Editorial Explainer

Dub spoken audio, not just subtitles

Klap translates speech into subtitles only; ChatCut pairs multilingual captions with dubbed voice tracks and lip sync.

Try Video Translation

Edit full timelines from Claude or Codex

Klap's remote MCP only clips and schedules shorts against a paid plan, while ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code and Codex to your local timeline using your own AI quota.

ChatCut vs Klap FAQ

Is ChatCut a good Klap alternative?

Yes, if you want to cut vertical shorts and also edit full videos, generate editable motion graphics, cut multicam podcasts or dub speech on a timeline. Both offer AI clipping, animated captions, transcript editing and MCP servers for Claude Code and Codex, while ChatCut includes a free editor with watermark-free desktop 4K export and Premiere, DaVinci or CapCut project handoff. If you only want automated virality scores, direct social scheduling with post analytics, or a pay-per-use clipping API, Klap is purpose-built for that workflow.

Can I download clips for free in Klap and ChatCut?

Klap's free trial lets you process 1 video and preview or edit the generated clips in the browser, but downloading or posting clips requires a paid plan starting at Basic ($14.50/month billed yearly, $29 monthly). ChatCut's Free plan includes the timeline editor, transcription, auto captions and watermark-free local MP4 exports up to 4K on desktop.

How do Klap's MCP server and ChatCut's MCP server differ?

Klap provides a remote OAuth MCP server (plus a ChatGPT app and Claude connector) with 18 tools for clipping long videos, translating captions, exporting MP4s and scheduling social posts against your Klap plan. ChatCut Desktop runs a local MCP server that opens the full multitrack timeline, editable motion graphics and XML or CapCut draft exports to Claude Code, Codex and any MCP agent using your own AI subscription quota.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works
Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
