Skip Filmora's credit meters and manual cuts

Prompt ChatCut to clean up dialogue, style dynamic subtitles, layer B-roll graphics or dub speech on a timeline you can still tweak by hand.

Cut retakes without paying per minute

Filmora charges AI credits for text-based editing; ChatCut transcribes for free and cuts retakes, pauses and fillers on the timeline.

Try Speech Cleanup

Captions without burning speech-to-text credits

Instead of spending 4 Filmora credits per minute on Speech-to-Text, transcribe for free and switch across kinetic subtitle styles.

Try Add captions

Prompt editable graphics, not fixed charts

Go past Filmora's fixed chart presets by prompting layered callouts, cutouts and animations you can still edit on desktop.

Try Editorial Explainer

Dub and lip-sync across languages

Translate scripts, clone voices and lip-sync speakers into six languages while keeping every subtitle track editable on your timeline.

Try Video Translation

Drive the desktop timeline from Claude

Filmora's AI Mate stays locked inside its own app with daily caps, while ChatCut Desktop connects your local timeline to Claude Code, Codex and any MCP agent.

Claude Code

Edit a multi-cam podcast episode

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then sync my two podcast camera angles, cut to the active speaker, remove silent pauses and export in 4K.

Codex

Package a YouTube explainer

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then tighten my talking-head recording, add animated callout cards for each key stat and generate styled captions.

How the Agent Plugin works

ChatCut vs Filmora FAQ

Is ChatCut a good Filmora alternative?

Yes, if you want an AI-native desktop editor where you can prompt edits on the timeline, connect Claude Code or Codex over local MCP, and get 4K export, auto captions, voice cleanup and AI cutout without watermarks or AI credit packs. If you need iOS and Android apps, planar tracking or NewBlue and Boris FX plugins, Filmora is still the better fit.

Does ChatCut put a watermark on free exports like Filmora?

No. ChatCut Desktop exports up to 4K 60 fps locally on Mac and Windows without adding a watermark on the Free plan, whereas Filmora's free trial stamps a watermark on exports until you buy a paid plan.

Can I move projects between Filmora and ChatCut?

Neither editor opens Filmora's proprietary .wfp project files directly in the other. Both export Final Cut Pro 7 XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut and Jianying drafts.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

See ChatCut pricing
Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works
Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
