## Give each short a complete edit

Bring your podcast, interview or product take, then ask ChatCut for the pacing, captions and graphics it needs.

### Keep the pauses that matter

For interview shorts that need breathing room, ask ChatCut to remove retakes while preserving deliberate pauses.

### Make captions fit your brand

When preset captions miss your brand, ask ChatCut to create a custom animated style for your shorts.

[Try Add captions](https://chatcut.io/skills/add-captions)

### Explain more than the transcript

When a short needs diagrams alongside captions, ask ChatCut to build editable graphics around the speaker's explanation.

[Try Editorial Explainer](https://chatcut.io/skills/motion-graphics?template=mg-packaging-editorial-explainer)

### Localize a whole short

For multilingual Reels, ask ChatCut to translate, dub and caption the finished cut together.

## Use ChatCut from your agent

Paste one prompt into Claude Code or Codex. It installs ChatCut and starts the edit.

### Claude Code

Turn a podcast into captioned shorts

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then pick three self-contained moments from my podcast, cut each into a vertical short under 60 seconds, remove retakes and add captions in my brand colors.

### Codex

Build a reusable product review edit

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then edit my product review into a 30-second Reel with a strong opening, product B-roll and animated captions, and save the editing workflow as a reusable skill.

## ChatCut vs Submagic FAQ

Is ChatCut a Submagic alternative?

Yes, for creators turning interviews, podcasts and product footage into captioned shorts. Both offer AI editing and generation; ChatCut is a fit when you want reusable editing workflows and an editable timeline for further finishing. Submagic is built around social shorts and also offers direct publishing and scheduling.

Does Submagic also work with AI agents?

Yes. Submagic has an official MCP server for Claude Code and other compatible clients, with prompts for captioning footage, creating Magic Clips and publishing videos. ChatCut also connects to agents and lets them edit a timeline, create custom graphics and reuse editing skills.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
